چکیده

Continued fraction absorbing boundary conditions (CFABCs) are new arbitrarily high-order local absorbing boundary conditions that are highly effective in simulating wave propagation in unbounded domains. The current versions of CFABCs are developed for the non-dispersive acoustic wave equation with convex polygonal computational domains. In this paper, the CFABCs are modified through augmentation of special padding elements, and are effective for absorbing evanescent waves occurring in dispersive wave problems while retaining their absorption properties for propagating waves. The padded CFABCs for dispersive wave equations result in fourth order evolution equations, which are solved using an efficient combination of Crank Nicholson method, Newmark time-stepping scheme, and operator splitting ideas. The effectiveness of the padded CFABCs and their implementation is illustrated through numerical examples with varying levels of dispersion. 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Continued Fraction Absorbing Boundary Conditions for Transient Elastic Wave Propagation Modeling

This paper presents a novel absorbing boundary condition (ABC) that can accurately simulate elastic wave absorption into unbounded exteriors that are often encountered in problems related to seismology and soil-structure interaction. By linking the material-damping ABCs (the perfectly matched layers) with differential-equation-based ABCs, the paper draws on their respective advantages and prese...

Absorbing Boundary Conditions for the Schrödinger Equation

A large number of differential equation problems which admit traveling waves are usually defined on very large or infinite domains. To numerically solve these problems on smaller subdomains of the original domain, artificial boundary conditions must be defined for these subdomains. One type of artificial boundary condition which can minimize the size of such subdomains is the absorbing boundary...

Continued fraction absorbing boundary conditions for convex polygonal domains

Continued fraction absorbing boundary conditions (CFABCs) are highly effective boundary conditions for modelling wave absorption into unbounded domains. They are based on rational approximation of the exact dispersion relationship and were originally developed for straight computational boundaries. In this paper, CFABCs are extended to the more general case of polygonal computational domains. T...

A Traveltime-based Absorbing Boundary Condition and Fourth-order Implicit Procedures for the Simulation of Acoustics

For the simulation of waves in a bounded domain, the absorbing boundary condition (ABC) must be set appropriately to suppress the wave reflection on the boundary. This article introduces a new traveltime-based ABC which can significantly reduce the boundary reflection. Also the article considers a new fourth-order implicit time-stepping scheme, which incorporates a locally one-dimensional proce...
